Often while traveling, shopping malls can be overlooked. While it is great to explore the local independent shops in a city and support those businesses, you can also learn about the local culture and find some serious entertainment in the shopping malls.
1.Sunway Pyramid, Malaysia
This mall is enormous! The first thing you will notice about it is the giant sphinx statue, and the mall itself is built with a large pyramid structure. Inside the mall it is colourful with very high ceilings and open space. While you would not necessarily put the pyramids and ice in the same sentence, there is a very large skating rink in this multi-level mall. There are many celebrations and events held in the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Complex, but if that isn’t enough for you there is a theme park close by. The food there is very well decorated and there is fashion for all tastes from traditional Malaysian garments to your upscale American fashions.
Deemed the fourth largest shopping mall of the world, 1 Utama has several attractive destinations within it. Enjoy the large indoor tropical rainforest and lush rooftop garden which is sure to please nature enthusiasts. Also within 1 Utama is the “Oval,” a large stage that hosts a number of events, including celebrity appearances and fashion shows. Included in this mall for your entertainment are movie cinemas, an arcade, and even karaoke! If shopping isn’t really your thing, don’t worry; there is also a huge sports zone in this mall for rock climbing, bowling, batting cages and a gym. They’ll even teach you all about scuba diving.
3. West Edmonton Mall
If you are on vacation to be entertained, the West Edmonton Mall is where you need to go. There are not very many malls that can compete with this one. Inside the West Edmonton Mall is a water park, miniature golf, a casino, nightclubs, marine life, a shooting centre, haunted house, skating rink and amusement park. There is also a 7D movie theatre where you can sit in chairs that move, watch in 3D, even special effects such as wind and water! Take a laser and fight off the enemies while you sit back and become a part of the movie. The West Edmonton Mall is its own wonderland for all ages.
